On the third Sunday of the month, Brookfield Congregational Church takes time to highlight one of the many missions making a difference in our community. In this Mission Focus presentation, Trisha Gay, a board member of St. Luke’s Guest House, joins us to share the story and mission of this important local ministry.
St. Luke’s Guest House began in 2013 when Dr. Howland and his wife opened their home to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. What began as a small, informal effort eventually became a structured nonprofit organization in 2017. Today, St. Luke’s Guest House provides housing and support for up to 12 individuals at a time, including single adults and families.
In this presentation, Trisha explains:
• The history and development of St. Luke’s Guest House
• Who the Guest House serves and how people are referred to the program
• The expectations and structure for guests
• The role of the case manager in helping guests find employment, housing, and other resources
• How guests work toward financial stability and independence
• The importance of providing not only temporary shelter, but also a path toward permanent housing and greater stability
• The ways St. Luke’s continues to support guests even after they leave the program
St. Luke’s Guest House seeks to provide more than simply a place to stay. Its short-term goal is to provide safe shelter, while its long-term goal is to help individuals and families find affordable housing, connect with needed resources, and build a more stable future.
